Honey, Thorpe’s fifth album, is DIY pop music with an ear for experimental sounds and harmonies. Think Sade meets Meat Puppets with a little Arto Lindsay here and there.Thorpe’s baritone moves between speech-song and sweet melodies. The lyrics explore images and spaces rather than narratives or expressions of identity. The musical materials of Honey are simple: guitars that lean sometimes to the smooth, sometimes to the skronky, a six-string bass that often doubles as a guitar, drums that lay out deep and sweet grooves, a few bits of ‘80s toy keyboards, and very unusual trombone part on “The World”.

Honey was recorded in Glasgow from 2018 to 2023 and features Rory Haye on bass, Owen Curtis Williams on drums, Amanda Nizic on harmony voice, and Doug Tielli on trombone.

Music videos by Kristine Mifsud for “Cloud Study” and David Court and Caroline Lambert for “The World.”
