KMRU writes music on trains

Composer KMRU (aka Joseph Kamaru) joins host Josh Thorpe to discuss field recording, synthesis, and writing music on trains. We talk about process, listening, collaboration, fan reactions, and several people KMRU likes to listen to, including Jessica Ekomane, Oki, Mat Ball, Giuseppe Lalasi, and Sal Davis.

Joseph Kamaru, aka KMRU, is a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based sound artist who works primarily in field recording, noise, and sound art, composition,installation. KMRU has earned international acclaim from performing in diverse venues, including the Barbican, Berlin Atonal, CTM festival, Dekmantel, Le Guess Who and Tramway. He holds an MA in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts and  received an honorary mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2023. Today we’ll discuss his process, listen to some of his music, and also to a few things he likes to listen to.
